DRIFTWOOD, BARK AND BURLS
This work reflects the duality of using organic materials in glass to explore the tension between destruction and creation, capturing moments of transformation
In this series I explore and experiment with organic materials, driftwood and small burls collected in central Idaho. After cleaning the pieces in the studio, It’s coated with fine powdered glass. The pieces are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, incinerating the wood and leaving behind an unpredictable new form. The heat transforms and merges the materials, creating a completely unique object.
