Incinerations
Incinerations is a meditation on nature’s cycle of destruction and renewal, rooted in my lifelong connection to the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Wildfires—whether sparked by nature or humans—are forces of devastation that also bring regeneration, reshaping the land and giving way to new growth. Through metal and glass, I explore fire’s transformative power by creating glowing objects that act as beacons—symbols of both warning and guidance. I gather and press wildflowers and other organic materials from the region, layering them between sheets of glass before firing them in a kiln. The intense heat incinerates the plants, leaving behind carbon ghosts, delicate bubbles of bio matter, and traces of life transformed. This work reflects both loss and possibility. Fire’s destruction speaks to the discomfort of change, but also the beauty of renewal. Each piece glows with passive light, embodying resilience, transformation, and hope—interwoven with the impermanence of life.
